Why is My iPhone 6 Screen Randomly Turning On?

Last updated: 04/03/23

The iPhone 6 offers a new “Tap to Wake” feature that works in addition to the familiar “Raise to Wake” option available since iOS 10. However, these functions may quickly become bothersome if your screen continues to go on by mistake, potentially resulting in wasted battery life.

Though the iPhone 6 has included a home button, you may find that waking it by lifting it or touching the screen is more convenient than pressing the home button. It’s easy to accidentally press the home button too many times, which can lead to things like Apple Pay or an Accessibility Shortcut.

Why is My iPhone 6 Screen Randomly Turning On?

However, like with any useful function, there is a potential drawback that you could find irritating after using your iPhone with Face ID for a while: the display will be on at all times. It doesn’t matter whether you’re placing the iPhone in a shirt pocket, a pants pocket, wiping the screen, or simply laying it down on a table; the screen will always be awake.

If your iPhone 6 hasn’t been damaged by a fall, impact, water, extreme heat, or a new screen, then the issue is likely due to a software bug. So, you can take this guide to fix all the problems such as random restarts and the screen turning on.

1 – Disable Certain Notifications

According to a reliable source, such as GadgetHacks, the iPhone 6’s screen may be set to automatically wake anytime you get a notification. Turning off lock screen notifications for applications that you don’t find helpful is a smart idea, but we don’t encourage doing so for all of your apps. Here’s how to get it done:

  • Go to Settings
  • Go to Notifications
  • Tap on Apps
  • Toggle Off “Show on Lock Screen”

2 – Force Restart Your iPhone 6

When your iPhone 6 has small issues like the screen turning on randomly, a force restart is one of the finest solutions you can consider. Performing a forced restart will exit any open programmers, free up RAM, and reset the device. There will be no loss of data and the gadget should be in working order again. To do a force restart on your iPhone 6, do the following:

  • Press and Release Volume Up Button
  • Press and Release Volume Down Button
  • Press and Hold Power Button

Now, wait until the Apple logo appears on your phone’s screen.

3 – Update iOS Software

If you have tried all of the solutions that have been described above, but the issue of the random iPhone 6 screen turning on continues, then there is a good chance that your iPhone is experiencing a system malfunction. iSumsoft suggests that installing the latest iOS update might solve the issue. The following is the procedure you need to follow:

  • Go to Settings
  • Tap on General
  • Tap on Software Update

The iPhone 6 will begin searching for updates immediately after you hit the software update button, and the most recent available update will be shown on the screen.

4 – Disable Raise to Wake Feature

Because of the accelerometer in your iPhone, the “Raise to Wake” function activates whenever you pick up the device and see the screen. When you take your phone out of your pocket or pick it up from a table, you won’t have to press any buttons to check your alerts. When you press the Touch ID Home button, you may use your fingerprint to unlock your phone and skip the lock screen altogether.

Apple added support for Raise to Wake in iOS 10, so your iPhone 6 should start working normally again after upgrading. Raise to Wake is supported on the newest iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus models as well. If you don’t want to use this function, you may disable it in the following ways:

  • Head to Settings
  • Tap on Display & Brightness
  • Turn off the “Raise to Wake” Slider

5 – Restore iPhone 6 to Factory Settings

An iOS system repair tool is usually effective in resolving software-related issues that lead to the iPhone’s screen turning on unexpectedly. If you’d rather not use any third-party software, resetting your iPhone to its original settings in recovery mode is your last option. Using this method will wipe the iPhone clean of all content and settings. It is important that you first create a backup of your iPhone. Then, here is how to restore your iPhone to its original configuration.

  • Connect Your iPhone 6 to Mac or PC
  • Be Sure You Have the Latest iTunes Version Installed
  • Connect Your Phone, and Launch iTunes
  • Perform a Force Restart to Get in Recovery Mode
  • iTunes will Pop-up a Dialog Box to Let You either Update or Restore
  • Click Restore to Restore Your iPhone 6 Completely

Have you been able to find a solution to the problem where the screen of your iPhone turns on by itself? Did any of the advice presented to you above prove useful? Is there anything that we have overlooked? Feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments section below.
