A Birth Certificate can be defined as an important document that records the proof of birth of an individual. It certifies all the circumstances of birth such as the date and time of the birth of the child, a certified copy that ensures registration of birth of that child.
A new birth certificate issued on the official state letterhead, certified with the state seal and is signed upon by the registrar. It is the very first and most important right of any child, as it establishes the identity of the individual.

Online process of new birth certificate registration
By following the steps and guidelines as mentioned below, one can easily get a new birth certificate registered for a newborn child.
- The very first step is to visit the official website of birth certificate registration online.
- Next, click on the ‘sign-up’ button present on the website, and make sure to do so under the category of the general public.
- A pop-up box will appear next for registration purposes, in which the applicant must fill in the correct details such as the place and date of birth, registered mobile number, username, and user ID, etc.
- Once the applicant’s username and area are considered active and suitable for online registration, a verification code will be provided which is to be entered before pressing the button of ‘register’.
- Another pop-up box shall appear where the applicant must enter their email ID for verification purposes. Once the ID is verified, an online application form is sent to the applicant.
- Details such as the name of the child along with the names of both the parents and date and place of birth etc. Are required to be filled in carefully in the form within 24 hours.
- The final step is to submit the form and take a print of it and visit the nearest registrar office, where the form will be attested by the sub-registrar.
Documents required for issuing a new Birth Certificate
- Proof of birth in the hospital.
- Parent’s birth certificates.
- Parent’s identity proof for verification purposes.
- The marriage certificate of the parents.
Fee
The registration fee for a new Birth Certificate is 20 INR. However, a late fee is charged if the certificate is not issued within 21 days of the birth of the child.
Birth Certificate VS Certification of Birth
Although, both the terms sound similar, they have different meanings. A Certification of Birth proves that the person is medically alive. Whereas, a Birth Certificate proves the identity of an individual.
Re- issuing a birth certificate
Sometimes, the date of the birth, the time of birth or some other information is filled incorrectly in the Birth Certificate. This may cause problems and so it is advised to change this information and fill in the proper and correct information of birth of an individual. It is even lost in some cases and causes a huge problem for the individual. Reissuing and availing a new Birth Certificate is done in such a case.
