These days we live in an increasingly mobile world, in more ways than one. People are out of the house a lot more than in the past because we’re simply so busy living our lives, whether it’s working, shopping, traveling, or socializing.
Increases in Mobile Usage
In recent times mobile phone usage has gone up hugely. 30 years ago cell phones were a luxury item, only for the rich and successful people of the world. Now almost everyone, even young teens, have phones of their own.
It’s easy to see why mobile gaming has become such a big thing too. As technology develops and phones become more powerful than ever, mobile gaming becomes much more attractive to game developers. Modern phones are able to play games almost as well as last-gen consoles. Keeping in mind that consoles cost a few hundred dollars each, yet gaming is considered an extra on phones, that is more than impressive.
Think about this too, how many people do you know that own the latest Playstation? Or X-box? It might be quite a lot, but now think of how many people you know that own mobile phones. It’s a much bigger group of people, right? So it’s self-explanatory how big the mobile gaming market has become.
Not Just a Mobile Market
Phones aren’t the only reason that mobile gaming has grown so big either. Whether you’re an iOS user or an Android fan, there are plenty of high-spec tablets available for entertainment uses. These devices are larger than phones and more powerful in processing terms.
They can run more powerful games, and more advanced apps, and have better graphics and battery life than cell phones. Also, the screens on these devices are a lot bigger than phone screens, which is great for what you’re looking at, but is also great for giving you more control and intricacy over where you touch the screen. That might seem like a small point, but for some games such as big RPGs like Final Fantasy XV mobile game or Baldurs Gate this can make a vital difference.
This type of access to games through tablets, phones, and other mobile devices has brought massive numbers of casual gamers onto the scene. Dedicated console/PC gamers were already bound to give mobile games a try, but with a third of the US population (100 million people) admitting to being mobile gamers, it’s easy to see that many non-gamers have given mobile games a try.
Mobile Gamers are Loyal Gamers
It isn’t just access to the games that has made this such a big (and growing) market sector either. There’s also the fact that most players who do play, do so daily. Daily play has always been tougher on PCs and consoles, but with phones being in our possession at all times that’s a thing of the past. Any idle moment can be helped by opening a game up and playing a few minutes to kill the time. Bathroom breaks and public transport are two popular spots for this type of entertainment.
With technology still advancing too, the number of mobile gamers and the size of this market is only going to keep on growing.
